Match report: Ventnor 1st XV v Chineham 1st XV (13th February 2010)

Chineham travelled to Ventnor on Saturday and a late kick off ensued due to the visitors missing the boat. In bitingly cold wind they were severely beaten by a strong Ventnor team on form. To their credit the visitors started well and competed fully throughout the match.

It was fifteen minutes into the game before Ventnor started to assert themselves with a push over try from Todd Riches. Then three tries from Ben Lush at centre showed where the points could be scored took the half time score to 24-0. In the second half the home team finally played fully to their real strengths. They dominated the scrum and the compact strength of the tight five forwards allowed the back row of Jim Pemberton, Riches and Sam Pickard free to cause havoc in open play.

This mobile play by the forwards gave quick ball for the backs to exploit their pace. Four tries from Sam Lines and two from Damien Marriott who added fourteen points with the boot saw out a good day for Ventnor.

The Wightlink Man of the Match was Sam Pickard whilst the A J Wells Black Dog award went to Sam lines – for scoring four tries and not buying a jug!
