Kingsclere 14 – 17 Ventnor 1st

By GH

Ventnor’s last game of the season was away to Kingsclere and the furthest the island team had to travel and managed to finish the season with a win.

The game was evenly matched for the first 20 minutes with neither team being able to put any points on the board. Ventnor had a number of chances to score beforehand but couldn’t capitalise until captain and top try scorer for the season Todd Riches managed to break through the defensive line to touch down and then convert himself. Ventnor carried on from where they left off in the first half with their oldest player on the pitch Dean Magnuson scoring and then with his first Ventnor try Wight link man of the match Andy Gilbert scoring the last of Ventnors points of the afternoon and season.
Ventnor must of assumed the game won but Kingsclere had other ideas and started playing some good rugby and scored two converted tries. Ventnor found themselves having to defend for the rest of the game which they did well to keep hold of their lead.
