Well how much has happened over the past couple of weeks!
- Congratulations to Ady & his team on their Bike ride for the Hospice. I understand from Damo that we even recruited a new member in the leader of the Council David Pugh.
- Thanks to Biz & Maggie for updating the role of Honours board at the club, & for spelling all the names correctly!
- Training – continues to be well supported & Dave is working the lads hard. We have purchased some new tackle suits & Rog Evans is contacting one of his sailing buddies about stitching the pads etc so they are useable this season. For those of you who haven’t put in an appearance yet, expect a call from me!!
- Paul Ruttledge – there have been many rumours flying about Paul. I saw Tony last week & he says Paul is getting much better, has put on a bit of weight & will be returning to the front line very soon. We wish him well & keep those letters coming to Dave Martin so he can send them on please.
- If you have been up the club since Sunday you will notice that Rob Newton & Nige have been busy re-constructing the bar. I think James took some snaps? (I sure did, skipper – see below. J). They also had a working party with them, so thanks guys for your efforts.
- Carnival run & procession – the carnival run is ON - Monday 11th August & Damo & AP are sorting the team, get in touch with them if you fancy having a go. Also Coops & AP are sorting our Carnival entry, but are struggling for a lorry or trailer, so if you have any ideas please let me know so I can pass the info on. We really need to get the Club back on the Ventnor Map.
- Dave Ball is running a workshop on the new rules for the forthcoming season & 2 top referees will also be coming along. This is an excellent opportunity to understand the law changes so get yourself along to this, please let Ferg, Mike or Woz know you are coming. It is to be held at the club & along with us will be representatives from Wootton, Hurries, Vectis, Ryde & schools, so we need to make sure we have a GOOD representation. The date is Thursday 14th August at the VRFC Clubhouse. Watch this space for more details.
- Nolan had his stag doo, which was a bit messy especially at the Solent (that’s another story) & he flies out to Vegas on Saturday & gets married the following Friday so many congratulations to him & Kirsty. Remember if you are intending to come to the reception on 30th August at Ryde Theatre to send him an email as they need to know names & numbers.
- As you know through the Blog, Nige, Bob & myself have been trying to find alternative pastimes to rugby, & we have all been attempting to enter the world of Market gardening, you will pleased to hear that I have harvested beans, tomatoes, courgettes, beetroot, & a splendid crop of potatoes!!!
- Nigel has noticed an uncanny resemblance between Ross Harris and Darnell from the Big Brother House. If they are – as he ascertains – one and the same, what's the score with Scott Jesney?
- Finally for those who went to Osborne this weekend for the gigs I hope you enjoyed Weller on Saturday. Again Nige & I returned to our youth & led the moshing & the cry of “we are the mods”. We have heard that Ben Cooper was the only male to attend on Sunday & was seen dancing with a number of 12 year olds to “Love Machine!”
