Babz Bog No.7
Apologises to all for the long wait for this edition!
The season has now started, & it’s great to see people coming back to the club, & training is beginning to pick up. I know that Ferg & Mike are contacting everyone about playing this season.
As you will be aware the 1st XV have a Cup game on Saturday & if they perform anywhere like they did v the Hurries 2 weeks ago we could be in for a treat! I know the lads will appreciate a good turn out for the game. The Hurries game was great for Ventnor and it must have encouraged Dave Ball & Ferg. It was great to see the lads’ commitment. It was also very funny when Eamon the Hurries coach shouted at the subs to go & stand in the shade as he didn’t want them getting too hot in the sun! Oh those Sandown boys do make you smile!
The 2nd XV start their campaign on the 20th September at home, & I hope that all those who want a game will speak to Mike Flanagan this week.
The clubhouse is looking great & the clubhouse team are looking for volunteers on Sunday 28th September to clean, paint, tidy & maintain areas of the club & changing areas. We really want small teams of people to work for 2 -3 hours at a time. I will be around on Saturday & hopefully you can all commit a small amount of time on the Sunday.
The previous Sunday (21st Sept) the fell run is taking place & we need to supply Marshalls. Dave Martin has the details, but basically it’s a couple of hours Sunday Morning directing runners at various points between Ventnor & Shanklin. I think you will even get a nice flourescent Vest to wear!
On a personal note, I had 2 weeks off & had hoped to enjoy the sunshine, but the cloud, wind & rain took over! I did manage to get out fishing one day (another hobby I have tried instead of Rugby), caught some fish & drank some beer: still not sure its for me! 2 weeks ago a number of us went along to Nolan & Kristy’s wedding at Ryde Theatre. Damo & Dunc managed to upset a number of young girls, Mike Flanagan made a rather nice Balloon Animal & then proceeded to cut the cake with AP! I as usual managed to do a couple of numbers with the band. Last weekend I went to the Mudfest that was the Bestival! Our very own Festival team were there as usual Waz, Kev Wheeler, Billybob, Kay, Nige & Dawn, Kate & Dave. Waz was in a real mess Friday & rumour has it he threw up on Kate! Saturday was a great day with the likes of Human League & Chas & Dave playing. The highlight for me was the Specials & I had to leave Waz standing in the middle of the field with my beers, bag & coat as I legged it to the front as they played Gangsters!Well I hope to see you all on Saturday, & please let us know if you can help over the next couple of Sundays. James will be sending out a Newsletter within the next week or so too.
Cheers, have a good time
