Verwood have just been in touch to say that they are not able to raise a team so the 1st XV game on Saturday is therefore cancelled.

This is a double for Verwood – they cancelled their home game as well. Naturally the points willl be awarded to Ventnor.

The 2nd XV game against Andover 4ths will now take place at Watcombe Bottom (not the Middle School). Kick off is at 3pm.

A reminder this is also a Vice President’s Day.

This weekend, Saturday 27th March, both teams play their last home league matches of the season.

The newly promoted 1st XV take on Verwood in Hampshire League Division Two at Watcombe Bottom whilst the 2nd XV play Andover 4ths in Merit Table 3 at the Middle School. Both matches kick off at 3pm.

Ventnor Golf Club is sponsoring the 1st XV match whilst the 2nd XV game has backing from John Hilsum Associates. Many thanks to both.

It is also our last Vice Presidents’ Day of the season so we are hoping to see plenty of friends (old and new) at the club to help celebrate the 1st XV’s promotion to Hampshire Division One.

The clubhouse opens at 1pm and there will be a finger buffet generously supplied by Bookers of Sandown.

As you probably already know, the Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Presentation is taking place at the Ventnor Towers on Saturday 8th May. The price of a ticket is a mere £23. If you are looking to attend contact Zoe (07769 693 425) or Clare (07791 176 611).

This weekend, Sat 20 and Sun 21 March 2010, sees the visit of Birstall RFC on their Isle of Wight tour.

Whilst Ventnor RFC 1st XV are away to Fawley in a crucial game in the Hants Div 2 league.

The Birstall RFC Tour will see events and matches over the weekend at Watcombe Bottom:

Saturday 20th March:

12pm: VRFC clubhouse opens

1pm: Ventnor 2nd XV v Birstall XV – match kindly sponsored by Island Auction Rooms

The match will be filmed by Gamson Gray Films

2.30pm: RBS 6 Nations: Wales v Italy

Food, drinks, awards, singing & games

5pm: RBS 6 Nations: Ireland v Scotland

At some stage the 1st XV will return from Fawley & join us all for more drinking!

Then!!! “The Big Birstall Shaveathon!” – raising funds for The Richard Engelgardt Trust Fund – more details below

Birstall RFC Beard Off – 1st Jan til 20th March

Players to throw away their razors to help Rich!

Birstall RFC players will be growing beards to help raise money for the Richard Engelgardt Trust Fund.

During a pre-season training game against Aylestone St. James on Tuesday 18th August 2009 Richard Engelgardt tragically sustained a dislocated spine when a scrum collapsed. Though Richard is recovering well in Hertfordshires Stoke Mandeville Hospital he was informed during December that he is unlikely to ever walk again.

Club Secretary and Player David Bonser said ‘This is a great opportunity for the guys and the club to pull together to help raise some money for Richard as well as awareness of the fund. We will be shaving them off on the 20th March when we visit Vetnor RFC where Richards brother plays as part of our annual tour. The buzz about doing this between the lads has been fantastic and I’m looking forward to some of the horror cases that not shaving for 79 days will bring!’.

The club hope to raise at least £2,000 over the next 3 months and are grateful for any money people can give to help.

The Richard Engelgardt Trust Fund

A number of players will down their razors for 79 days from January 1st to raise money for the Richard Engelgardt Trust Fund by growing beards. The club hopes to raise over £2000 and any contributions will be greatfully recieved.

This Saturday (6th March), the 1st XV play Locksheath Pumas in Hants Div 2 at Watcombe. The match is sponsored by Angela Coaches and the kick off is at 3pm. Please support the lads because this is an important match against one our main promotion rivals.

The 2nds are playing against the Hurries Gentleman at Sandown – again the kick off is at 3pm. Our team boasts the names of Engelgardt (snr), Malkin, Ricketts, Benfield, Babington (snr and jnr), Taylor etc – so we are represented by some mighty fine gentlemen too.

This Saturday (27th Feb), Ventnor 1st XV play Lychett Minster at Watcombe – kick off 2:30. This game was originally meant to be played on 9th Jan but got snowed off. There is a chance that the pitch may not recover from the rain, so keep an eye on your emails for updates.

The 2nd XV game away to Tottonians has been cancelled.

Over the last few days, Flan has sent out 36 texts to players to check on their availability for the 2nd XV game. He has had 4 replies. If you get a text, please reply immediately so Flan knows where he stands. It’s bloody hard work being the skipper of the 2nd XV – especially before an away fixture – so please be more pro-active. There are only two more Merit Table 3 matches this season, so let’s make sure we put out a strong team for both.

Don’t forget your RFU raffle tickets. We need to move these to bring in funds for the club.

The 1st XV were meant to be playing Kingsclere away this Saturday (20th Feb) but Kingsclere cannot put a front row together so they have cried off. Ventnor get the two points so there’s no real damage apart from being able to improve our points difference. Kingsclere was the team against whom the lads scored 114 points earlier in the season at Watcombe.

The 2nd XV is travelling to Andover for a Merit 3 clash. There is very limited room on the coach for supporters so please contact me before just turning up.

On Sunday, there is a celebration game for County’s birthday (another one!). We’re meeting at 1:00 at Watcombe for a 2:00 kick off. Anyone who fancies a run-out, bring your boots. There will some old faces making an effort so it should be an occasion to remember.

On Saturday (13th Feb), the 1st XV play Chineham in a crucial promotion match at Watcombe. Kick off at 2pm. Please come along and give the lads your full support.
