Kingsclere RFC 3-41 Ventnor RFC 1XV 9 October 2008 Match Report
Ventnor RFC 1XV travelled away this weekend to north Hampshire in a fantastic day out for the club, as the side wreaked havoc on Kingsclere RFC.
The team began the game well against this forward-orientated team with lots of experience.
Ventnor opted to receive the kick and immediately ran the ball into enemy territory, where they remained trying to break the defence. After various phases they were awarded a penalty, which Damien Marriott scored with ease.
Soon after, David Champion created space for Marriott to score an unconverted try, although a Kingsclere penalty made it 8-3 going into the second half.
Some well-chosen words at the half-time break helped Ventnor realise the game was theirs for the taking and from the kick-off, the forwards swarmed over the opposition.
It was not long before Ventnor added to their score, Ben Lush sneaking through to score before Wightlink man of the match James Pemberton put himself on the score sheet.
Ventnor’s free-flowing rugby was paying dividends and next to score was Champion after a weaving run.
With frustrations clearly mounting on the home side the game almost boiled over as various spats erupted, the opposition desper- ate to slow Ventnor’s attacking momentum.
However, their efforts failed as Ventnor romped to victory.
Ross Harris, although subject to a sliding challenge more often seen on a football pitch, still dived over to score a converted try before Turner scored shortly after with a powerful drive.
The visitors played out the remaining 30 minutes in opposition territory with Todd Riches capping the scoring with a try.
