VENTNOR’S second team gave the club a much-needed boost by dominating this re-arranged Merit Three clash.

The Island side were far too strong for a Lymington side who should have had more of a say in the match — given they had up to 12 substitutes.

The game started well for Ventnor when Wayne Williams ran at pace from the back and, supported by man of the match Tom Engelgardt, he scored in the corner.

Ventnor continued to pressurise Lymington, who despite a rigorous warm-up appeared to be caught napping, and scored again after some good hands from Warren Fresle and Jake Babington, put in Dave Martin to score in the corner.

Lymington, came back strongly and were aided by the sin binning of the unfortunate Matt Taylor. However, they were unable to utilise their advantage before their scrum half was also sin-binned.

Ventnor continued to dominate all aspects of the game for the remainder of the half with Williams, Jim Pemberton and Martin all scoring.

The second half saw Lymington make sever- al changes, and the game itself took a completely different turn as Ventnor had to defend.

They stood firm and did manage to break away after good work and a kick ahead from Engelgardt. Pemberton won the chase to the line and touched down, Warren Riches kicking the conversion.

Lymington managed to break through Ventnor’s resolute defence after A. J. Wells Black Dog Award winner Ed Blake was sin-binned after being on the pitch for one minute.

But Ventnor were always in total control and won comfortably, earning the whole club a real morale boost.

Ventnor II Squad: Adam, Marsh, Ball, S. Babington, Taylor, Williams, Engelgardt, Jackson, Berry, Marriott, Pemberton, Fresle, J. Babington, Martin, Riches.

Subs: Blake, Vize, Klien, Jordan.
