The John Adams Memorial Match update 2
Tomorrow will be a big day at Ventnor Rugby Club. Firstly we have The John Adams Memorial Match on Saturday (3rd September) at Watcombe, which kicks off at 1:15pm.
kicking off at around 1:15 when a Ventnor Select XV take on a combined Sandown & Shanklin RFC / Isle of Wight RFC team. Massive thanks to Michael Cooper of SSRFC for putting this combined side together along with our own Jac Stemmet.
Before this game, when the bar opens at midday, the Adams family will welcome early arrivals with a beer or wine and George and Babz will say a few words in remembrance of John.
Many of John’s young recruits of the early ’80s will be joining us from the ‘north island’ – including Charles Guy, Sean Slade, Ted Moody, Dick Moody, Mark Rogers, Pils Gilbert and Steve Camm among others – so it’ll be a a singular chance to meet up with old friends.
Jeannette, Diane, Lois and Andy will be running the Pimms and cake stall so bring lots of cash with you so that we can be sure that all proceeds get to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. This applies to raffle tickets as well (£5 per strip of 5).
There’ll be a Souvenir Programme on sale at £2 (cash again please).
Kirsty Newnham will be bringing her catering van along selling burgers, hot dogs and bacon rolls etc at £4. You can pay by card for these. You can also buy drinks across the bar using card.
At 3pm, our Ventnor 1XV play Havant 3rds in the first game of the new league season, in the Counties 3 Hampshire. It should be a cracking match.
Many thanks to our match sponsors for the day, namely: The Bistro, The Crab Shed, The Mill Bay, The Sea Pot, St James’s Place Wealth Management, The Spyglass, The Two Cooks and The Volunteer.
