Despite the unseasonable weather, there was a great start to our 50th Anniversary Celebrations yesterday with an excellent President’s XV v Chairman’s XV match with plenty of the the ‘older generation’ making an appearance to survey what they created all those years ago.
From those start-up days, it was good to see Ian Wilson, Rog Evans, Barry Pike, Pete Wilson, Dave Lloyd, Dave Green, Wuz Godden, Keith Fradgley plus the entire front row of Mickey Buttle, Bob Freer and Neil Holness.

Many thanks to Bob Parker for organising events, to Chris Skelley and family for the excellent barbecue and hogroast (plus music) plus Deano, Roly et al who ran the bar.

The game itself was highly competitive with notable first starts for Henrik Brown, Lewis Howard, Iain Reeves and Steve Macey (making a guest appearance) while it was good to welcome back Duncan Kenny and Lewis Wyatt. Both sides played with attacking ambition but it was the determined and relentless defence that caught the eye. Warren Riches’ President’s XV won the game with tries from Lewy Morton and Harry Ottley while Charlie Magnurson scored the try for Ed Blake’s Chairman’s XV which Max Wheeler converted.
