Len Down has sadly passed away
It’s my sad duty to inform you of the passing of Len Down last weekend.

Len was one of the ‘originals’ who, along with such as Mickey Buttle, Rog Evans, Emile Rouby, Ian Wilson and others, set up Ventnor Rugby Club fifty years ago. The club owes him a huge amount.
I was fortunate to play alongside Len for several seasons and he was undoubtedly the best player I ever took the field with. He had it all – pace, power, acceleration and a siege-gun boot, both in open play and from the tee. Within four years of VRFC’s existence, he’d already notched up a thousand points!
He was a terrific captain who knew how to get the best out of his teammates and great company after the match and beyond. It was a privilege to count him as a friend.

The club sends its condolences to Nora, James, Louise and the family.
Best Regards
James
