Yesterday at Watcombe Community Cup Semi-Final against Bishopston RFC
Through the dust and barbecue smoke at Watcombe yesterday, Ventnor’s season came to an end with a narrow loss to an excellent Bishopston RFC team in the semifinal of the southern counties plate.
Staring at a 12 – 22 defeat with just minutes to go, Ventnor’s character shone brightly as the lads gathered for one last effort and Harvey Wheeler’s try plus the conversion from Tom Crews gave the gathered throng hope but, alas, time ran out with Ventnor battering at the door.
Jewy Jones scored V’s other try with Josh Ford adding the conversion plus a penalty. Lewy Morton was the A J Wells Man of the Match whilst Jack Gilbey took the Red Funnel Moment of the Match award.
Huge thanks to Gavin, Ruth and Amy for manning the barbecue to such good effect whilst Sarah and Molly managed to keep the hoards at bay behind the bar. Bradders’ Chippy faced its first big challenge and came through with flying colours.
There will be touch rugby and ‘gentle’ training going on through the off-season so look out for details coming soon. It’ll all be pretty informal and the perfect way to get into (or back to) rugby.
