Match report: Woking 1ST XV v Ventnor 1ST XV, 14/09/2017

Woking 1ST XV 80-5 Ventnor 1ST XV  Ventnor travelled away for a RFU Junior Vase game and suffered a defeat this week away to Woking. The island side had to travel with a bare 15 due to injuries and work commitments. As well as managing to field another side at home against Isle of Wight for Beer and Buses tour. Having a number of players out of position and stepping up from the 2s, Ventnor managed to hold back Woking for a time but were eventually undone by the home sides strong running backs. Unfortunately this would seem to be the theme for the rest of the day. There were some strong passages of play from Ventnor, who when keeping the ball in hand were making good ground. Ventnor were able to gain some points this week and a debut try from Man of the match James Green after he crashed through a number of players to score and give the team something to cheer about. Although losing the match the team were in high spirits on their long journey home with the help of some Mexican fancy dress and homemade mojitos. Ventnor are away again this week to Fareham heathens in the league. Match report: Ventnor 1st XV v Ellingham & Ringwood 1st XV, 07/10/2017

Ventnor 1st XV 12-21 Ellingham & Ringwood 1st XV, 07/10/2017 Ventnor suffered another defeat this week at home to Ellingham & Ringwood. The home side started slowly and conceded a number of tries early on with errors on their part, allowing the visitors to build a strong lead. Ventnor eventually realising they were in a game woke up and started playing some good rugby. They shored up their defence and attacking drives from the forwards were working well getting over that gain line. It wasn’t long before a debut try for Liam Roberts came after some good work from...

Match report: Trojans 3rd XV 74-7 Ventnor Lions, 07/10/2017

Trojans 3rd XV 74-7 Ventnor Lions, 07/10/2017 Ventnor Lions travelled to Southampton to play Trojans for their second league fixture. In the week before the match, team Captain Grant Richardson would have been very optimistic with the team available to him. Towards Thursday this declined through various reason including work commitments, tooth ache and first team duties. A depleted side arrived at Southampton to face probably one of the strongest sides Trojans have ever fielded in this league. Ventnor Lions never gave up and continued fighting for their solitary points. Ventnor Lions – Richardson, Gough, Stemmet, T. Davies, Willson, G.Davies, Steward, Teague, Obrien, McFly, Madala,...

Match Report: Petersfield 3’s v Ventnor Lions, 23/09/2017

MATCH REPORT by Grant Richardson Ventnor Lions travelled to Petersfield for their first game of the season and the first of five consecutive away games. The game started badly for Ventnor with 2 quick try’s for the home team which was mainly down to the lack of experience shown by some of the new players. This was to be a theme of the game with Petersfield playing some good rugby from players that were clearly playing well within themselves. However, the Ventnor team worked hard with many of the players making either their debut or a return after a long time away from the game. This hard work was rewarded in the final minutes when Colson made a storming run through several Petersfield players. However, he was to fall agonisingly short of the try line only for Blake to pick up and claim the glory of the try himself.
