Keith Fradgley*

Keith was with Ventnor Rugby Club from the very beginning, when it formed in 1974 and he and Ian Holness were very much the ‘responsible adults’ in a very player-led organisation.

He was particularly active in fund-raising when it came to building this clubhouse and then took on the role as our president – a position he held from 1984 until 1999. And as the local dentist, he had occasion to put a few mouths straight as well! He continued to support the club as a match sponsor and would attend Vice Presidents’ lunches until a year or so ago when his health began to waver. He will be sorely missed.

Tristan Price**

What can one say about Beast that has not already been written?! He first played for Ventnor in 1996 and was still turning out for us less than a year ago. A terrific player and a unique and wonderful person off the pitch, he combined warmth and humour and was always keen to welcome new players to the club and make them feel part of the VRFC fabric. His songs on homeward bound coach trips were legendary and the Ventnor carnival will never be the same without him leading the VRFC entourage.

He is held in such high regard in the rugby community that the No 1 shirt was rested for the day throughout Hampshire. The response to his untimely death has been remarkable – both in terms of the quantity and warmth of the messages but also in terms of the money donated to make life a little easier for Fiona, Dylan and Sofia.
