Match report: Trojans 3rd XV 74-7 Ventnor Lions, 07/10/2017

Trojans 3rd XV 74-7 Ventnor Lions, 07/10/2017 Ventnor Lions travelled to Southampton to play Trojans for their second league fixture. In the week before the match, team Captain Grant Richardson would have been very optimistic with the team available to him. Towards Thursday this declined through various reason including work commitments, tooth ache and first team duties. A depleted side arrived at Southampton to face probably one of the strongest sides Trojans have ever fielded in this league. Ventnor Lions never gave up and continued fighting for their solitary points. Ventnor Lions – Richardson, Gough, Stemmet, T. Davies, Willson, G.Davies, Steward, Teague, Obrien, McFly, Madala,...

Match Report: Petersfield 3’s v Ventnor Lions, 23/09/2017

MATCH REPORT by Grant Richardson Ventnor Lions travelled to Petersfield for their first game of the season and the first of five consecutive away games. The game started badly for Ventnor with 2 quick try’s for the home team which was mainly down to the lack of experience shown by some of the new players. This was to be a theme of the game with Petersfield playing some good rugby from players that were clearly playing well within themselves. However, the Ventnor team worked hard with many of the players making either their debut or a return after a long time away from the game. This hard work was rewarded in the final minutes when Colson made a storming run through several Petersfield players. However, he was to fall agonisingly short of the try line only for Blake to pick up and claim the glory of the try himself. Ventnor 2nd XV 12-7 Portsmouth 4th XV

Ventnor seconds played Portsmouth 4 in this tough merit table clash. The game was typically physical with both sides putting in big hits. Ventnor welcomed back from injury Winter, Newbury, Cripps and Rogers who all put in a massive shift. The first half ended 0-0 and the second half was where Ventnor began to dominate – with Fred Newman stealing all line outs and Newbury making good yards. The breakthrough came from a penalty which skipper Warren Riches deftly kicked into the corner and Newman caught from the lineout, Newbury then powering through two players to score the try....

Ventnor 2nd XV 64-19 Fawley 2nd XV

Finally a side traveled to Ventnors 2nd XV. Fawley only had 12 and as the rule states we either have to lend them players or we play with 12 as well to make it fair. Ventnor had the wind in their sails from the start with and early try from Jacobus and the game carried on in that fashion. Fawley had no answer to Ventnor’s hard hitting and off loading style of play. Man of the match Sam Pickard was everywhere stealing ball at the breakdown and running through tackles to score 3 try’s in the game. Fawley didn’t...

Locks Heath Pumas 2nd XV 7 – 7 Ventnor 2nd XV With only 14 people on the boat – one of which being Nolan Winter, the new captain running on to the boat and an ill thought out fancy dress theme, this looked to be a typical Ventnor II away day. The squad was boosted in Portsmouth by Paul Berry, fresh from a heavy night out in Brighton, and a random ginger boy we found at the side of the road who we later found out was called Ryan and that he had once played scrum half. All in...
