Match report: Fareham Heathens 1st XV v Ventnor 1st XV, 21/10/2017

Match report by Ben Savill Fareham Heathens 1st XV 43-5 Ventnor 1st XV Ventnor travelled away again this week for a highly anticipated clash with 6th in the table Fareham Heathens. Looking for their first win of the season and with the force of ‘Storm Brian’ in full effect it looked like a rocky trip both on and off the pitch for the travelling side. The match started with high hopes. This season’s Captain William Babinton  lead from the front with a great physical display, partnered well by scrum half Andrew Gough marching the Ventnor 15 up the pitch. Match report: Woking 1ST XV v Ventnor 1ST XV, 14/09/2017

Woking 1ST XV 80-5 Ventnor 1ST XV  Ventnor travelled away for a RFU Junior Vase game and suffered a defeat this week away to Woking. The island side had to travel with a bare 15 due to injuries and work commitments. As well as managing to field another side at home against Isle of Wight for Beer and Buses tour. Having a number of players out of position and stepping up from the 2s, Ventnor managed to hold back Woking for a time but were eventually undone by the home sides strong running backs. Unfortunately this would seem to be the theme for the rest of the day. There were some strong passages of play from Ventnor, who when keeping the ball in hand were making good ground. Ventnor were able to gain some points this week and a debut try from Man of the match James Green after he crashed through a number of players to score and give the team something to cheer about. Although losing the match the team were in high spirits on their long journey home with the help of some Mexican fancy dress and homemade mojitos. Ventnor are away again this week to Fareham heathens in the league. Ventnor 1st XV 12-21 Ellingham & Ringwood 1st XV, 07/10/2017 Ventnor suffered another defeat this week at home to Ellingham & Ringwood. The home side started slowly and conceded a number of tries early on with errors on their part, allowing the visitors to build a strong lead. Ventnor eventually realising they were in a game woke up and started playing some good rugby. They shored up their defence and attacking drives from the forwards were working well getting over that gain line. It wasn’t long before a debut try for Liam Roberts came after some good work from...
