Ventnor Rugby Club News Update 11th February 2026
A news update and summary of the latest from Ventnor Rugby Club. 11th February 2026:

After a wonderful service at the crematorium, the club did Beast (Tristan) proud with an excellent thrash (aka wake) in the clubhouse. I think he would have approved!
Huge thanks to Bob Parker for taking the organisational strain and to all the people who ran the bar, kitchen and car parks – namely Bradders, Molly, the Rev, Roly, Lewy, Ange, Kay, Bezza, Clive, Billy-Bob and anyone else who I’ve missed out. Thanks also to Sam and Lloyd at the Niton Post Office for the excellent food.

After a 27 – 24 defeat at Overton on Saturday, the Ventnor RFC 1st XV are on their travels again on this Saturday to Winchester RFC against their 3XV team, in their Counties 3 Hampshire 2025-26 league game on Saturday 14th February 2026.
The game at Overton was a great match to watch: it was just unfortunate that the whistle went when they had just taken the lead!
Tries by Riley Lloyd, Alec Bulpitt, Jewy Jones and Harvey Wheeler plus two conversions from Josh Ford meant that we took two bonus points home with us and actually increased our lead over Totts to four points with ten games played.

To remain top of the league, we need a good win at Winchester to keep the fate of the league in our own hands.
A notable aspect of the Overton game was the performance of eighteen year old Pat Banks who played the full 80 minutes and did himself (and the team) proud on his debut.

Meanwhile the Ventnor 2nds came unstuck at Fawley RFC not least due to a nasty ankle injury to Sean Frampton just when he was beginning to show the full potential that his talent and dedication were beginning to come to the fore.
We wish him a speedy recovery. There were a few debuts in that game as well – among them Beau Bridgman, who looks like the real deal.

The Ventnor 2nds are also away to Portsmouth RFC 3rds this Saturday 14 February 2026, in their Counties 6 South Hampshire Merit Tables 2025-26 league game.

There will be a Vice Presidents’ lunch held on 28th February 2026 when the Ventnor RFC 1sts play Alton RFC at Watcombe.
This game is shown as an away game on your fixture card but, as Alton gave us a walkover earlier in the season, they are obliged to travel.

The Vice Presidents’ Lunch sit-down will be at 13:00 and the guest speaker will be a legend of VRFC’s past, Anton Lavers. Please contact me if you wish to attend.
The price per person remains at a bargain £15 which also includes your ticket for a typical eclectic VRFC raffle!
Best Regards
James
