Ventnor’s excellent form in Hampshire Two continued with a tough victory over Locksheath Pumas on Saturday.
In the first half, the narrow pitch suited the Locksheath forwards and they had much of the territory and advantage. But after a period of sustained pressure, it was Ventnor who earned the breakthrough with a penalty try, which was converted by Ben Cooper.
Penalty kicks were exchanged between the sides, with Cooper maintaining his form.
In the second half, the rolling substitute system helped Ventnor in the prop position, and they gradually began to win the forward battle, and the match was finally won with a lovely sweeping move, culminating in Ross Harris providing a pinpoint pass to Tom Englegardt, who dived over in the corner for an excellent try.
Englegardt and Damien Marriott were outstanding for Wightlink and A. J. Wells-sponsored Ventnor.
