A Great Day at Watcombe for the Minis Meet-Up 2026
Three hundred plus kids from ages 6 to 11 descended on Watcombe for a Minis Meet Up on Saturday. Teams from Wanstead, Salisbury, Havant, Beccs and Vectis took part and the rugby was great.

The organisation of the games was handled by the clubs and it was first rate with the timekeeping as good as the Japanese bullet train! From our point of view, being able to use the top pitch as a car park made all the difference and there were no issues with that aspect (such a contrast from previous years).

Huge thanks to Charlie and Sarah from Ventnor Youth Football for managing the parking itself while Bezza, Clive, Sean, Tim (plus Ellerson) and Tony (plus Ambrose) did a great job making sure everyone ended up where they were meant to.
One can almost take it for granted that Roly and Bradders were on hand to run the bar and kitchen with Frances helping and then moving over to the barbecue. Emma, Jess, Rosie and Ash, also from Ventnor Youth FC, managed the tuck shop and did it brilliantly.
We just about sold out of everything – in fact we ran out of burgers and sausages just before the day closed. The organisers and clubs were delighted with how it all worked out and have already booked for next year.
Ventnor 7s at The Sunshine 7s 2026

Meanwhile Ventnor’s 7s team took part in their first tournament of the summer at The Sunshine Sevens 2026 at East Grinstead RFC
It was a tough assignment from which much was learned enroute to the plate final which got away from them after a very strong start.

The full squad was: Tom Branagh (capt), Pat Banks, Harry Bexon-Stone, Jesse Butchers, Joe Coghlan, Rhys Cole, Josh Ford, Cody Hayman, Max Henley, John Waghorn and Harvey Wheeler with head coach Damo also travelling.
The average age of this Ventnor 7s squad is about 20!!
Old Glynonians RFC v Ventnor RFC Saturday 2nd May 2026

We revert back to 15s rugby this Saturday when we travel to Old Glynonians RFC in Epsom for the quarter final of the community plate.
If we get through that, there should be a semi-final at Watcombe on 9th May – possibly against Yatton RFC (Bristol), featuring Ventnor old boy, Josh Braham.
