In other news:

Tristan Price’s Memorial Match on Sunday was a great success with an excellent game of rugby played between a Ventnor XV and an Executive Command XV (the company that Tris used to work for). The score doesn’t really matter but there was some great rugby played with the Ventnor tries scored by Tom Branagh, Max Henley, Jack Gilbey, Adam Wade (2), Chris Rose, Max Wheeler (2), Regan Newbury (2), John Waghorn, Tommo Engelgardt and Pat Banks.

Ventnor’s Squad: Jack Rushton (capt), Pat Banks, Paul Berry, James Blake, Tom Branagh, Beau Bridgeman, Henrik Brown, Ewan Castle, Tommo Engelgardt, Mike Flanagan, Jack Gilbey, Max Henley, Duncan Kenny, Charlie Magnurson, Lewy Morton, Regan Newbury, Jack Price, Iain Reeves, Aaron Robinson, Chris Rose, Tom Scadden, Blake Tombleson, Adam Wade, John Waghorn, Ben Westbrook, Harvey Wheeler, Max Wheeler, Warren Riches and Olly Wood.
Regan Newbury was the A.J.Wells Man of the Match while Adam Wade took the Red Funnel Moment of the Match award.
Many thanks to Clive for reffing the match and to Steve Skelton and Laura Haytack from the Executive Command for their brilliant organisation of the day in which plenty of money was raised for Tristan’s family via an auction, a raffle, a barbecue and donations.
Also huge thanks to Bradders, Roly and Frances for their work in the bar, kitchen and barbecue area.

Ventnor 2nds played their last game of the season on Saturday – yet ANOTHER away game, this time against an abrasive Christchurch XV which Ventnor lost 38 – 22.
However, there was some excellent rugby played with John Waghorn and Ben Westbrook having great games on their debuts. The points were scored via tries from Harvey Wheeler, Will Broomfield (2) and Pat Banks plus a conversion from Warren Riches.
Ventnor RFC 2XV Team, 18 April 2026
The team: Iain Reeves, Henrik Brown, James Blake, Ewan Castle, Will Broomfield, Pat Banks, Ben Westbrook, Dean Magnurson, Max Henley, Beau Bridgeman, Olly Wood, Harvey Wheeler, John Waghorn, Adam Wade, Warren Riches (capt). Subs: Riley Lloyd, Aaron Robinson.
Ben Westbrook was the A.J.Wells Man of the Match while Olly Wood took the Red Funnel Moment of the Match award.
Despite the heavy imbalance which saw Ventnor 2nds almost always playing away from home, the team ended up a very creditable third in the Hampshire Premiership South West league and – from the display on Saturday – things are very much on the up for the squad.

This Sunday 26th April 2026, we have our mini-rugby festival at Watcombe with three teams from the mainland descending on us for their annual thrash which, this year, will see over 300 participants. Vectis RFC are also represented in some age groups.
We are still looking for volunteers to assist on the day which is always a big money spinner for the club.
NB: PLEASE DO NOT park in neighbouring local residential estates. There is parking onsite at the club.

On the same day, Ventnor’s Sevens Team head off to The Sunshine Sevens at East Grinstead RFC (on Sunday 26 April 2026), resplendent in their new kit sponsored by Gavin Ford’s Ford Search Partners company.

Then on Saturday 2nd May, Ventnor travel to Old Glynonians RFC for the quarter final of the Community Plate. IF we were to win, rumour has it that we will have a home game for the semi-final on 9th May.
Best Regards
James
