Ventnor RFC 1XV 11-3 Egham RFC 1XV 1st Round Provincial Cup match report
Saturday 19th September 1992, Provincial Cup 1st Round
Ventnor RFC 1XV progressed into second round of the Provincial Cup with a victory which was more convincing that the score line suggests.
It was Egham RFC who took the lead, within minutes of the kick-off, with an opportunist drop goal.
The Islanders responded well with the pack having much the better scrummage ball.
Ventnor finally got on the scoreboard, early in the second half, when a penalty was converted by Dave Martin.
Pressure began to tell on the Surrey side and they conceded another penalty which Martin duly converted.
The Islanders scored a try ten minutes from time when Biz Burrows took the ball blindside and passed to Warren Fresle to go over the corner.
The score remained the same even though Ventnor were reduced to 14 men when captain Nigel Malkin was injured.
