Match report Ventnor RFC 1st XV v Isle of Wight RFC 1st XV 25/11/2017

With the sun shining and a big crowd in support this weekend saw the first Derby game of the season between Ventnor 1st XV and Isle of Wight RFC 1st XV.

Ventnor started the game in brilliant fashion as the first 10 minutes showed dominance, however they couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities they’d made for themselves within the opening quarter. A number of unforced errors opened the gates for the away side as they managed to run in 4 try’s and a penalty to go into half time with a Lead of 24-0.

The away side kept up this momentum and had the first score of the second half. Ventnor’s set pieces had been a very reliable source of attack in the game and it showed beneficial as a line out 5 meters out had the forwards form a strong rolling maul for hooker Lewis Jones to rumble across the line. Keeping up with the momentum the home side secured a second successive score as a well worked back move saw a 15 meter break with replacement Damian Marriott offloading to Flanker Calvin Edwards in support to beat 2 defenders and crash over the line. The remainder of the game saw Ventnor play with the never give up attitude and kept the pressure on, however the visitors were to run in another handful of try’s to secure the win.

Unfortunately the score line doesn’t reflect how the game went but there were a lot of positives for the home side to take into training and the next league game.
