This Saturday (15th March), it’s a big day at Ventnor Rugby Club as our 2nd XV play their last scheduled game of the year against near-neighbours and fierce rivals Sandown & Shanklin RFC 2nd XV in the Hampshire Premiership South – Merit Table.
The kick-off is at 2pm (not 3pm as previously published).
It’s also the last day of the 6 Nations Championship (where England are still in the mix to take the crown) so there will be three matches across the day (Italy v Ireland at 14:15, Wales v England at 16:45 and France v Scotland at 20:00). HOWDEN INSURANCE are generously supporting the day so there will be cheap beer on tap and food for sale.
We now have a new huge TV in the clubhouse purchased through the £50 contributions donated by Howden Insurance for every insurance policy taken out by members and friends of VRFC.

In other news, Ventnor’s 1st XV were extremely unlucky to lose by one point on Saturday after fighting back against a very strong Eastleigh team. It was a great game to watch with two excellent tries scored by Louis Wyatt and Tom Smith.

Ventnor CC celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2025.
Events get underway with an Evening with former England fast-bowling legend, Matthew Hoggard MBE (aka ‘Hoggy’) at Steephill on Saturday 5th April (6pm).
A renowned after-dinner speaker and raconteur, Hoggy made his England debut in 2000, represented his country 93 times and was a star of the epic 2005 Ashes-winning series. The £35 ticket-only evening will take place in the Academy sports hall at Steephill. It includes a buffet sit-down supper as well as a full bar (of course…). More on the club website.
