Ventnor Rugby Club News Update 14 October 2025
There were two great results at the weekend with Ventnor’s 1st XV winning on the road at Ellingham and Ringwood RFC and Ventnor RFC 2nds edging a win against a Fawley RFC 2XV at Watcombe who had evidently travelled intent on a bit of biff!
Ventnor 1st’s victory was pretty comprehensive against a powerful and experienced E&R side who were full of confidence after an excellent win away at Eastleigh only the week before. So they were definitely not expecting a comprehensive 14 – 41 defeat!! Ventnor’s tries were scored by Dan Lythgoe, Joe Coghlan (2), Jacob Jordan (2), left-winger Olly Wood and Jewy Jones. Max Wheeler’s boot added the extras. Debutant Josh Ford was the A J Wells Man of the Match while Lewy Morton claimed the Red Funnel Moment of the Match award.

Ventnor 2nds’ win was particularly praiseworthy because Fawley are a strong side and Ventnor had to deal with the upset of two nasty injuries. However they came back from being 7 – 21 down at one point to round out winners by 29 – 28. Charlie Magnurson, Rosco Harris, Sam Lines and Grant Richardson (2) were the try scorers with the Rev Warren Riches adding the extras.
The Red Funnel Man of the Match was Luke Butler and Ewan Castle deservedly took the Red Funnel Moment of the Match award. And there must be a special mention for Todd Connor who had to handle a particularly demanding debut as our 2nd XV physio with those nasty injuries to Jimmy Excell and Tim Davis.

These results mean that BOTH teams have taken maximum points from their games this season and are on top of their respective leagues.

This Saturday Ventnor 1sts host Tottonians RFC 2nds at Watcombe whilst Ventnor 2nds are on their travels to play Tottonians RFC 3rds.
