Ventnor 13-23 Isle of Wight
Ventnor hosted Isle of Wight this week in a cup game that saw a local derby played out at Watcombe bottom. The home side started superbly playing good attacking rugby and not letting the opposition get a look in. Ventnor’s forwards driving them down the pitch and resulting in Todd Riches offloading to Sam Pickard to score the opening try. After this Ventnor seemed to take their foot off the gas and allow the Isle of Wight back into the game with too many penalties given away with their kicker going for the posts on all of them and converting them. At the beginning of second half it was still too close to call and with Ventnor scoring again from Riches picking up from the back off the scrum before offloading again this time to Jake Babington to touch down in the corner. Again after establishing a lead Ventnor allowed Isle of Wight to come back and score with a try in the corner themselves. With more penalties given away Ventnor slipped further behind and came off the pitch disappointed and feeling like it was theirs for the taking.
