Match report: Chineham RFC 2XV 7 – 55 Ventnor RFC 2XV, 5 January 2019

By GH

Ventnor’s young Lions show the way!

With a side containing all but 1 player under 30, Ventnor put on a great display of running rugby with 9 tries away from home.

Travelling up to Chineham is never an easy game and Ventnor had to show great defensive prowess to keep the home side to just the one score.

The first half was a close fought 40 minutes with Ventnor only leading 17-0 after tries from debutant Cameron Griggs, Max Wheeler and Cory Turner.

The second half looked more daunting to Ventnor as now they were playing up the hill that had hampered Chineham’s efforts. However, the younger, fitter side flourished with wide attacking rugby. Another try from Griggs, and scores from Dom Marsh, Ben Atkins and Andrew Teague kept the scoreboard ticking. But Ventnor weren’t done there as in the last 2 minutes, two well-worked team tries were finished off by Ed Blake. The brace gave the score a healthy look. Kicking 5 of the conversions was tighthead prop Ricky Keyes.
