Fixture cancelled Ventnor RFC 2XV v Portsmouth RFC 3XV 28 September 2024

Portsmouth 3rd XV have cried off so there will be no home game for Ventnor 2nds on Saturday.

This is particularly disappointing since – although it was a common occurrence last season – with our 2nds deserved promotion, it was believed that this was going to be a thing of the past.

Meanwhile the Ventnor Rugby Club 1st XV travel to Tottonians RFC: Tottonians RFC 2XV v Ventnor RFC 1XV fixture Counties 3 Hampshire 2024-25

After a hard-fought defeat last weekend against a determined Aldershot & Fleet side, Ben Savill is mixing up his squad for this away fixture and we may well see a 1st team debut for Henrik Brown who has been a star throughout off-season training.

First Vice Presidents’ Lunch of 2024-25

Last Saturday saw our first Vice Presidents’ lunch of the 2024-25 season, at the club on Saturday 21st September 2024.

Many thanks to Alan Whitehouse for an excellent speech, to Sally Cooper for the lunch and to Sam, Jeannette and Carrie for their work in the kitchen and behind the bar.

Also many thanks, as ever, to Roly for preparing the clubhouse and for opening the bar and to Maria for the superb post-match food.

Volunteers for RFU First Aid Course

We are looking for volunteers to take an RFU First Aid course so we have more cover on the touch line – both for home and away games.

‘The Emergency First Aid in Rugby Union course provides learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to give care and manage minor injuries, with a focus on those occurring in a rugby setting. The course sits on the national qualification framework (Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work) and is transferable into the workplace.’

Twice Weekly Rugby Training

As a player member you be able to join your team mates at the Ventnor Rugby Club training, which is held twice per week:

For 2024-25 season Director of Rugby, Neil Evans, has put together a great coaching staff, namely: Neil (DOR and Backs), Clive Cardwell-Hill (Forwards, First Phase Possession), Dean Magnurson (Forwards, Ball Retention), Todd Riches (Backs, Attack).

TUESDAYS TRAINING 2024-25 SEASON: FITNESS – 6.30pm to 8.30pm

THURSDAYS TRAINING 2024-25 SEASON: SQUAD, SKILLS, TACTICAL PLAY – 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Training will be rescheduled during the season so that Tuesdays will focus on fitness under Lewy Morton, Andy Teague and Layton Greatorex whilst Thursdays will centre around squad training, skills and tactical play.
